Hi,
Since we are on the topic of Doctors in Northeast, USA I have the same
question. I have seen Dr. Russel Cecil in Amsterdam, NY and I am
going to Dr. Fletcher of Northeast Orthopedics in Albany, NY for a
second opinion. I have a daughter at home and travel to a distant
location for surgery would be almost impossible for me so I am leaning
toward Dr. Fletcher performing my BHR. Any feedback about him to
share? My Physical Therapist says he is very good. We do not have
very many Dr.'s to choose from here that are trained in the procedure.
Cecil told me he has only done 8 of these surgeries. Also how long
does the surgery usually take? He told me 1 1/2 hours but I sometimes
hear longer. I want so badly to be well again ...I am 41 and used to
workout a lot and be in great shape. Now I feel out of shape and get
depressed about it. I am SO TERRIFIED about having surgery. I had it
scheduled for Jan 9th but then read about possible metal allergies and
Dr thought I might have them so need to be tested. My father fell and
broke his hip and after wards had constant pain that never went away
(he passed away 2 yrs ago). He was diabetic and they thought that was
why his body was rejecting..I guess no one ever thought it could be
the metal. Anyways I started having night terrors about surgery. As
much as I tell myself it is for the best I have never had any surgery
and I am so scared. How do you overcome the fear...I have thought
well I could not take any pain meds for a week then when I can't walk
I will know I must do it! ...but that is not really a great idea lol.
No one understands what I go through except for my boyfriend who has
been very supportive. Even my own mom thinks I overstate my condition
and had the nerve to call me a "fat ass" on xmas day when I could not
get off the couch fast. I am a bit overweight but not that
large..grrr Just want to say I am loving this site and reading all
the stories. It is reassuring to know I am not in this alone. :)
