Hey everyone,
I posted a sort-of intro and questions in November, and things have
gotten much worse since then. I got some great advice on things to
ask my insurance company but they are refusing to send me the full
policy, saying I have to get it from my partner's employer. My
partner's HR department is refusing to give him a full copy, saying he
has to get it from the insurance company. My partner is too
overwhelmed to know how to help.
My doctors are flat-out refusing to help me, saying that I have to
find a surgeon who will deal with insurance--and the surgeons in
Seattle will not do a resurfacing on me. I'm trying to get approval
to go to De Smet; he has seen my x-rays and says that he can do
resurfacing.
I barely dragged through this semester-- and now I find myself in
horrible pain every day, unable to get through my day, no prospect of
anything but a hip replacement here in the states and doctors that are
unsympathetic, even the ones I had huge respect for. I feel hopeless
and helpless and I have no idea what to do or how to do it. I can't
even get a copy of the damned policy from the insurance company so I
have no idea how to proceed and the depression is overwhelming.
I feel like my life is falling apart.
Does anyone have any advice on how to handle things, how to advocate
with doctors for pain, and insurance companies, etc?
For anyone who has ever gotten insurance approval with any insurance
company to go overseas, how did you do it? Aetna keeps telling me my
doctor has to start the process, but my GP and my rheumatologist are
refusing to help me and I understand De Smet doesn't ever deal with
insurance. What can I do?
I've got insurance with Aetna Choice PPO right now, but they're even
trying to get this as a pre-existing condition. Right now I'm trying
to get proof from my old insurance company that I've been covered.
I'm on Enbrel, since they think this is autoimmune. I'm having
horrible back pain and leg pain as well as hip, and the exhaustion is
beyond believable. Bending/lifting/
so much I want to die.
If I have to, I'll go with a replacement, it just kills me that De
Smet can do the resurfacing and I have no idea how to get it done.
