So all approved messages sent to the list will have a generic email address. That makes it even more essential to sign your posts. Posts which are not signed are automatically not forwarded. As this new format will bring about more work to myself, I am going to have to be more strict in enforcing the policies of the list, and eliminate most offtopic discussion. If offtopic discussion is allowed as it comes up in coconut discussion, it will be at my sole discretion as to which posts I feel should be posted.
The following messages submitted for posting will generally be rejected:
Advertisements or promotions of personal agendas or other websites and
products.
Criticisms of our products or our competitors products. We don't publicly criticize others who produce and market coconut products, and we're not interested in funding this forum for our competitors to come and criticize our products.
Arguments and debates. There is a fine line between those who are asking genuine questions about the mainstream dietary advice regarding fats and oils, and those who simply want to debate and promote their agenda, and the decision to allow or not allow a post in this regard will rest with me.
Messages asking questions which are covered in the online FAQ at
http://www.tropicaltraditions.com/faq.htm, or in the archives, will be directed to look at those sources and not reach the list.
Messages with inappropriate subject headings, such as "Digest X." One of the great values of this group are the archived messages, and it is impossible to find messages by searching when the subject line does not reflect the message.
Virus warnings.
Anything deemed offtopic and not contributing to the goal of this list.
Long case histories of people's illnesses and asking for medical advice, or if one should stop taking medications. We are not doctors, and coconut oil is a food, not a medicine. Everything posted on the list is someone's opinion, and nothing is to be taken as medical advice.
Unfortunately, I will not always have time to inform people why their message didn't make it to the list. Currently many more messages are rejected then are posted, because of the reasons above. For example, 50% of all messages posted to the list are still not signed.
Please note that if you are asking product questions about Tropical Traditions products, this is NOT the place to ask, as your question may not get answered. Please direct any product question about Tropical Traditions products to: http://www.tropicaltraditions.com/customerservice.htm All questions posted here WILL be answered.
It is certainly not my desire to be so strict on this, I would rather that this was a completely open and unmoderated list. But there is no other choice except to stop the group all together. Too many listmembers are being harassed by unsolicited email, that we must implement these changes so that people can post their questions without fear of harassment. And since that creates more work for me and the other moderators, I need to be stricter in what can be posted and what cannot.
Those of you who signed up only for announcements on product availability, and do NOT want to receive the discussion group messages, need to modify your membership in Yahoo to receive only "special announcements." The way you do this is to log into you Yahoo account at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/coconut-info/ and then click on "Edit my Membership" in the upper right hand corner. On the next screen under "Message Delivery" you need to choose "Special Notices." That way you will only get special notices sent from the moderators.
All messages posted to the group and archived are copyrighted by Tropical Traditions, Inc. with all rights reserved.
Sincerely,
Brian Shilhavy
