I believe that is a myth. However there is always some truth
involved. If you were to be involved in an accident while you were
on pain meds that clearly state "do not drive or operate machinery"
you would have a problem. If you needed to slam on the brakes and
you couldn't because your op-leg was not yet strong enough, you
would have a problem. Perhaps it does vary from state to state but I
was told by my surgeon that I could drive as soon as I could hit the
brake hard enough to avoid hitting something or someone. I waited
until five weeks and practiced slamming the brakes in a parking lot.
After that, it was off to the races.
